The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, in association with Le CENTQUATRE space, is devoting a large retrospective to famous American artist Keith Haring (1958-1990). Keith Haring was one of the most well-known artists of his time and, even today, his inimitable style, with its strong, graphic line and repertoire of emblematic signs, remains familiar to all, instantanely recognizable, like an iconic symbol of our era. The exhibition focuses on the profoundly “political” content of Haring’s work, which was apparent throughout his career and had a lasting influence on many other artists.
Almost 250 pictures on canvas and tarpaulins, as well as from subway walls, and even twenty monumental works, will be exhibited (the larger pieces being presented at Le CENTQUATRE). This makes this exhibition one of the largest ever presentations of Keith Haring’s works. Paris seemed the absolute place for such a major exhibition as, after taking part in the Figuration Libre France/USA show presented in 1984 at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Haring became attached to the city and often stayed, worked and exhibited there. One of the must-see exhibitions of the season!
