Art Paris has become over the years a major event in the Parisian annual art calendar, the main springtime  moment for modern and contemporary art. This year it will host a total of 144 galleries (of which 74 newcomers), from 20 different countries, under the impressive glass roof of the Grand Palais.
Art Paris Art Fair is unique for its choice of focusing on the art scenes of the East – Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia. This year, for the first time, the fair has invited a country as guest of honour: Russia. It is the first time also that Russia participates in the fair, as well as several other countries (the United Arab Emirates, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia). Regarding French participation, Art Paris Art Fair welcomes the return of a number of renowned galleries, including Christophe Gaillard, Suzanne Tarasiève, Christian Berst, Claude Lemand and
Farideh Cadot, as well as first-time participants like Pièce Unique, Anne deVillepoix, and also Maeght and Fleury galleries for modern art.
Art Paris Art Fair is also this year launching a new section, entitled “Promises”, with the objective of promoting young galleries that are less than five years old and who have never exhibited at the fair. The 12 first galleries to take part in the 2013 edition of “Promises” are: 16th Line (Rostov-on-Don), Leonardi Agosti (Sète), Backslash (Paris), Duplex 10m2 (Sarajevo), Edward Cutler (Milan), Galerie L’Aléatoire (Paris), Lehr Zeitgenössische Kunst (Köln), NK Gallery (Antwerp), Galerie De Roussan (Paris), Vincent Sator (Paris), Trinity Contemporary (London) and Xpo Gallery (Paris). “Promises” is supported by l’Officiel Art.
The Artdesign platform will bring together a selection of cutting-edge galleries presenting exclusive pieces produced by contemporary design talents: Galerie Acabas (Paris), Patrick Brillet Fine Arts (London), Cat-Berro Galerie (Paris), Galerie Domeau & Pérès (La Garenne Colombes), Mazel
Galerie (Brussels), Galerie MiniMasterpiece (Paris), Mitterrand + Cramer (Geneva), Perimeter Art & Design (London), Galerie Slott (Paris).
The Artdesign platform is supported by IDEAT Magazine.
Another novelty this year is the launching of a section for art and artists’ books. This has been made possible through cooperation with the art and coffee table book group within the French National Publisher’s Union (SNE), headed by Pascale Le Thorel, in association with Artcurial Art
Bookshop. The group includes some thirty publishers. Every hour, for the duration of the fair, artists, art historians and other authors will sign their books and meet the public.
During the fair, a VIP programme, entitled “Springtime in Paris”, will  express the vitality of the French capital’s art scene, by establishing links with the Adrian Paci exhibition at the Jeu de Paume, Anticorps by Antoine d’Agata at the Bal, Correspondances at the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Disaster at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Pantin, Julio Le Parc at the Palais de Tokyo, Ettore Sottsass at Sèvres-Cité de la Céramique,
Walid Raad at the Louvre, or Alina Szapocznikow, dessins at the Centre Pompidou; or with several exhibitions on the theme of Russia in Paris such as the Chagall exhibition “Entre guerre et paix” at the Musée du Luxembourg, the Alexei Vassiliev exhibition on the Brothers
Karamazov at the MaisonVictor Hugo, or the newly renovated Zadkine museum.
